Frequently Asked Questions
As a university training clinic we are able to offer treatment at reasonable cost on a sliding scale. Our current income-based scale ranges from $10 to $50 per couple per session.
The length of therapy will vary depending on the needs of your situation. Therapy typically lasts anywhere from 3 months to 1 year, but varies on a case by case basis.
When you call us (848-228-2125) for the first time you will most likely reach our Couples Clinic Voicemail and be asked to leave your name, phone number, and some good times to reach you. One of our clinic coordinators will then contact you and talk with you about what you are looking for and answer any questions you may have. Our coordinators check our voicemail system once a day, so you should expect to receive a call back within a day or two.
The first few times you meet with the therapist is an assessment period, for both you and the therapist. The therapist will want to have an initial session with both partners together, usually followed by individual sessions with each partner separately. After that, in a joint session, the couple will be given some feedback and have a discussion about recommendations and the direction of therapy. This is also an opportunity for the couple to see how they work and connect with the therapist.
